St. Cayetano (or Cajetan) was a 15th century Italian priest and reformer who is venerated as the patron saint of, amongst other things, gamblers.

I started this piece while on a road trip that eventually encompassed 15 states and 22 cities. I started noticing the vibrant designs of the scratch-off lottery tickets that were discarded around every gas station and convenience store. There was something poignant about them, how they so directly represented someone's hopes only to end up tossed on the sidewalk.

St. Who? the Obscure:

Heading 2

While I wasn't raised Catholic, I've always had an affinity for the art and iconography of saints. As I grew older and started learning about the saints themselves, it struck me how there seemed to be a patron saint for every conceivable situation. Sure, everyone knows about St. Francis and St. Valentine, but it's nice to know that someone's looking out for the tin miners, vinegar makers and surfers as well.
